Its about 6 inches across, I have a 20 gallon tank for him, but feel bad and feel like he needs a bigger tank. Anything I could buy that is like plastic that he could live in. Any ideas

My 7" RES lives in a 40gallon breeder tank and a fenced-in baby pool outside when it's nice. Since I have a breeder tank it is wider than normal tanks and a little less deep which provides her plenty of swimming area. Her basking area is elevated and on top of the water so it doesn't take away from the swimming space. The filter is external.

Try finding a larger version of your current tank or get a nice deep, wide, glass tank for your turtle. Also, you could think about a pool or pond for the summer outside if it's nice enough where you live. 20 gallons for 6 inches is WAY to small

you are practically killing your turtle

trust me i have two turttles

you will either need a wide 50-100 gallon tank or get an outside stand up pond

The guideline is 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle length, so you need at least 60 gallons of water, so you'll need at least a 80-100 gallon container.

A large plastic tub (Sterilite, Rubbermaid, etc.), plastic stock tank, shaped pool liner, or big kiddie pool all work nicely.

I have a 46 gallon glass bow front aquarium for my turtle that is about six inches long. I use a floating turtle dock so the turtle can swim underneath his sunning area. My filter is external. I have had my turtle 33 years.

Try for at minimum 75 gallon tank if you have to keep him inside. if its a female, she'll get at least 12", you'll be needing a really big tank!

well first of all no tanks! put up a tiny little fence around a pound or something then only bring him in at night so no other animal will try to eat him i did this with my turtle and he is actually more active and playful

If you can't afford a bigger aquarium, look into getting a Rubbermaid stock tank. They aren't as pretty, but your turtle will have a LOT more room and be a lot happier!

No plastic. Plastic melts when it's heated, and he has to have heat to be healthy. You'll have to buy a larger glass tank.
