All three. People deal with events based upon the situation. There is no one that follows only 1 item. They follow them based upon the situation.

I would have to say the answer is #2. It's definately not #3. If ppl simply do things out of necessity then by logic there is no other choice for them to take. In essence one cannot understand the concept of light without dark. We understand concepts in terms of their opposites. So... if one only has one choice to make, then how could one possibly make an ethical decision when there is no antithesis to understand the ethics of said decision? I don't agree with #1 because once again if forced into a decision one cannot truly make a decision of ethics or morality for that matter.
I totally agree with #2. I don't really ascribe to any sort of moral absolutism/relativism or any other category. I don't really believe things are right or wrong. I think we just do, for lack of a better word, stuff and call what we do "right" or "wrong" to have a general standard. But these things aren't intrinsically "right" or "wrong". So... people just do things because they want to, and we attach a standard of ethics/morality to said thing.

There are good people and there are bad people, and there are different degrees of goodness and badness. But you're one or the other. And most people are bad people. None of those are ethical approaches to life. An ethical approach to life is to do things because they are the right thing to do.

I think most people do things because of bad habits. I think they (including myself most of the time ;-) have no real idea why they do things or what the consequences are. They act on the most powerful idea or emotion that pops into their head and this is usually based on some long established habit.
So maybe I'm answering # 3 with the understanding that they *think* it is their choice... but it is not.
The best approach to ethics is to understand your mind completely. This allows you to (potentially) act correctly in all circumstances and not be a slave to your thoughts and emotions.

Since ethics involves duty, it is no. 3. Duty does not require you to do things because you need to nor does it consider your wants.

ethical means to have integrity so do things because they are who you are and don't lie about who you are to make others happy, do the right things because they are right for you and the right things to do, be happy if you can be and know that there are a lot of people in this world that just don't care, sometimes we have to do things for all of the reasons that you have listed, that's all

I think most people do what they WANT when we should do what we NEED to do. ppl always putting their wants ahead of their needs get them into trouble. we live in a society that is totally dependent upon instant gratification.
