I have been raising my guppies for 2 years now. i started with a 10 gallon and now have a 20 gallon and 3 10 from all the births, but i just had the weirdest batch i have ever gotten. double headed fish. most of the fish died though only about 6 survived. So one was 2 headed. 1 was swiming upside down. One came out black, the 2 others were stuck together. the mom died throught birth and in about 4 weeks all the guppies died. what happened?

You inbred them. You need to split families up. When the fish have babies you need to make sure those fish go in a separate tank. If you have four tanks you can rotate the births, that way by the time you make it back around to the first tank you are four generations removed and there shouldn't be a problem. I would take our guppies once a month to our local fish store and swap them out for free so that we had different family 'lines' to avoid inbreeding.
It is an easy fix...I hope this helped!!! Good Luck!!

Inbreeding wasn't the cause. People do more research. Actually inbreeding is what makes a true specie of fish. Every now and then genetics can have a bad effect on fish although it is less noticeable because fish have many fry. Many will die off early due to being weak or malformed. I don't think it had anything to do with the water. How old was the guppy that gave birth to these fry?

The inbreeding theories are interesting, but probably wrong. Fancy Guppies are crossed and back crossed endlessly without the problems you have experienced.
Something upset the genetics, but I'd tend to believe that it was a water chemistry problem. Sorry I can't give you a more satisfying answer.

Its from not having any new genes to pull into the gene pool they are having babies with brothers and sisters you need to get some new fish to mate with the ones that you already have. It will help. You may want to talk to your local pet or tropical fish store and they may be able to make a trade for some of yours so that they have new blood in their tanks also. good luck.
