My elderly mother is in a nusing home. She was told that if she sells her home she will have to pay with her own money to keep living in the nursing home. Is there some legal way for her to get rid of the house and not have to pay to stay. I've heard that she could sign over the house to one of us or all of us. Is this true? Or are there any alternatives?

If she is married her husband might be able to keep the home. She can't sell her home or give it away now and expect taxpayers to support her. If she had given it away before she knew she needed to live in a nursing home like 3 or more years ago they wouldn't make you give it back but her assets should support her not the taxpayers.
They will look back for a few years to she is trying to cheat the taxpayers.
