His base salary for the season is $27 million. Alex also agreed several seasons ago to defer $4m of this year's salary to be paid out between 2016-2025. Of the current deal, the Rangers pay the Yankees $7m towards his 2007 salary, and are responsible for about 1/3 of the deferred monies.
So, the Yankees will pay Alex about $16m out of their pockets this year, and will also pay about another $2.5 in deffered monies. The same setup is true of his contract through 2010, unless he chooses to opt out.
