We all know the classic prank. Someone is asleep. You fill a bowl with warm water, and place the sleeping person's hand into the water. Almost magically, the sleeping person begins to urinate against their will.

Now, my question is...WHY exactly does this happen? It's obviously some sort of biological response, but what response is it, and what purpose does it serve other than a way to get some laughs and make some enemies?

It's an urban legend, and doesn't actually work. A person with an easy bladder might sometimes do it, because it's a physical shock, but it would not normally happen. All you will do is wake the person up.

I am not convinced it does happen. I have seen it on comedy shoes or in comic strips. However I have never seen any real person who experienced that. have you?
