Changing the oil is the cheapest maintenance to do on a car. As with your other question, I would recommend an oil with additives for higher millage, if your car is in that category. I had an old Chevelle ('71) with almost 200,000 miles on it, and the engine didn't use 1 quart in 1000 miles. But I changed the oil as recommended, and the filter every time. What oil did I use? Whatever was on sale, but it was grade sf at that time. If your engine is burning oil, then it is probably worn out, so changes won't do as much as additives would.

Slick 50 is a proven additive.
I lost a oil pump and drove 25 miles down slow windy roads in the mountains without ANY damage to my engine.
IT WORKS
Just make sure its in a broken in engine or it will never break in correctly, usually add a quart at 50k and every 50-100k for max results. Engine runs cooler due to less friction . Never add to ricerockets or motorcycles that share oil with the transmission/clutch or it will cause the clutch to slip badly. Harleys and Indians are ok though

I don't know about "earl" additives But, Yes. Oil additives are a waste of money. Most only add a higher vicosity to your oil, nothing more. And on top of that, with a higher viscosity your going to use more fuel because now your engine is going to have to work harder to move it's parts through the heaver oil.

i think you mean oil additives, yes some of them are a waste of money, they cant do what they promise to do ,like the one that guarantees you to give your car more power by sealing off the cylinder walls,if it will get in the cylinder walls and seal them off it will also clog something else up,so for the most part of it,they are a waste,a lot of people use them though, and swear by them, they honestly believe the additives their using is whats holding the car together,i have an uncle who swears by stp oil treatment,to him his car wouldn't start without it,some people are like that though, but you can save your money and not buy these, there's no miracle cure for a worn out engine, like they claim they will re-store one,it doesn't happen like that, good luck with it hope this helps.
