I just noticed that algae is growing in the filter for the fish tank. I have 2 algae eaters that cant get in there. Its not on the filter parts that I can change, but on the spout where the water comes out. Should I just leave it? Is some algae healthy for tanks? I picked at it tonight and it came off in chunks... really gross... what should I do?

u shd just leave it.. algae has the same effect as live plants in ur aquarium.. providing oxygen, removing carbon dioxide and nitrates..in fact algae is gd for the aquarium just that it is unsightly and hinders the plants from receiving light..green algae indicates gd water conditions so need not fear.. u r doing a gd job.. cheeros!

I would say leave it. As water flows over it nitrates will be removed leaving all the less to feed algae in the tank itself.

Try just brushing it off with one of those algae brushes or even a tooth brush. That's what works for me. But algae is not unhealthy, just unsightly.

Leave it. Unless it's creating a problem with your water, just let it go. If you're not comfortable with it or unsure, get a test kit and do a quick dip. If all of the levels are ok, let it go.
