Alot of times when the greatest rapper ever question comes up, tupac is the most popular answer and i guess rightfully so, he had a lasting impact on the game the short time he was here..but if longevity was a bigger factor, wouldn't guys like jay-z, nas, krs one, and rakim easily lead the list of greatest rappers of all time; rather than tupac and biggie?

Oh, definitely, longevity has everything to do with legendary status. To me, KRS-One is the greatest rapper ever.

If you've been in the game 10 years or more, and doing your thing, then you're in that category. Also add Ice Cube to your list.

I agree with you 1,000 percent !!!! I have always thought that since Tupac & Biggie lost their lives, ironically, while living out they're lyrics, they became hip-hop's martyrs. This fact, ultimately, gives them the advantage to be known as the "Greatest Rapper Ever." Granted, they both did influence mass audiences in such a short period of time, we still can not and should not deny guys like you mentioned, (Jay-Z, Nas, KRS-1, Rakim and I would also include Ice Cube of N.W.A. and possibly Scarface of the Geto Boys), simply because these high caliber rappers also deserve this title based on their longevity in this industry alone. I have had this debate with many people who continue to represent for Pac n Biggie... it's definitely a cool controversial subject to discuss, and I believe will be debated 'till the end of time. Great question.

People who listen to rap nowadays are kids, whereas when Rakim, etc. where popular, you had adults listening to it. Kids don't care about longevity or consistency for that matter, by the time the next album comes out, they might be Goth or Emo...

i comprehend you like 50 however the only reason he could be seen a legend using fact of his image and loopy mainstream fulfillment, no longer his lyrical content or pass. the reason his final album sucked using fact he performed himself out. 50 is a one dimensional rapper. using image he created, he can purely rap approximately gangsta sh*t. i think of persons are uninterested in the comparable stuff from him. OutKast, Jay-Z, Nas, Ice cube, Rakim, Scarface are legends
