My daughter just got a baby ball python two weeks ago. It will not eat, and now its belly is soft and sunken in. When you touch the belly stuff comes out of him where he goes to the bathroom. Also he is holding his head on its side in the air and is tending to lean on his side rather then his belly. The day we bought him we found mites and took him back to be treated changed his bedding and then the next day retreated and changed his bedding. What should I do?

I would get the Snake to a reptile vet immediately. I raise Ball Pythons and this sounds like the snake has been poisoned. The place that treated the snake for mites may have used the wrong treatment. Please get the snake to a vet.

there may be a toxicity in the bedding you are using which would cause such behavior. if you touch the belly and stuff comes out when he goes to the bathroom, obviously something got ingested cause bad stomach problems. i would suggest getting aspen bedding. and keeping the temp at 85-95 degrees during the day and 70-80 during the night. give him one mouse from a reptile store or petstore every week. do not give him wild caught mice. they coulks carry mites or ther parasites that would then be transfered to the snake. go back to the petstore and make sure the snake isnt wild caught. only buy captive bred snake although wild may be cheaper. if you go with my diagnosis your snake should be fine. also if he doesnt eat, put him into a cofee can with holes in it, and drop the dead mouse in there with him. make sure the mouse is dead not alive. leave the can with him and the mouse in his tank and leave it there for 2 hours. after that, open the coffee can and the mouse should be gone. if this doesnt work then you will have to resort to force feeding, which is really strssful on the snake. also take him to the vet if my diagnosis doent help.

I would suspect some type of toxicity that is causing neurological problems. Some treatments used for mites are very dangerous if used incorrectly, particularly on a young animal. Do you have any idea what the store(?) treated the mites with?
Those are very serious symptoms and you should try to see a vet quickly. Good luck.

You definitely need to get the snake to the reptile vet (herpetologist) immediately. You also need to contact the place that you bought the snake from and demand that they pay for the bills etc. If not, I would take them to a small claims court, or something. That snake is dieing and it needs to be treated and the people responsible need to be punished!

Just take it to a vet, In the mean time keep his cage clean and watch closely. Take him in ASAP. the more sick and uncomfortable they get worsens their chance to live

i agree with baby_7991, the pet shop definatly needs to be held responsible. and i wouldn't recommend getting any other pets from them because if one snake has mites than they prolly all do.
