Both of these reformers spoke out against the evils of slavery but their differing points of view were very apparent. Garrison wanted to focus on slavery in the South and not address racial segregation and bias in the North, Douglass spoke out against both and eventually their differences split the American Anti-slavery society. Do you think these two reformers should have centered on just slavery in the south for the sake of unity or not? What do you think?

Slavery was a difficult problem that had many possibilities for solution. Pressure was being applied through many avenues. It was a problem for the entire union and abolitionist advocacy was needed in the politically powerful North. Calling for more racial intergration in the mid 19th century may have been counter productive.
Abolishing slavery was an awesome accomplishment. Trying to do more may have been noble, but the timing was not right.
