A Doctor

College grads? Plastic surgeon that practices in Beverly Hills, Paris France, or any other image conscious city.
Traditionally people would think doctors, lawyers, and engineers. Most pro athletes have college degrees (LeBron, Kobe & K.G. are some esceptions.) Honestly, I think that per hour (and even total annually) professional athletes are the highest paid employees. I mean what is the most a top notch doctor (plastic surgeon, open heart surgeon etc) can make? Maybe $2-5 million a year? What about a top notch lawyer, $2-3 million a year? Think about that, $1 million a year is the league minimum for a NBA veteran (5+ seasons) and the highest paid get $25-30 million a year and are only "working" 4 or 5 months out of the year. Look at Alex Rodriguez, $25 million a year for 10 years. Divide $25,000,000 by 162 games and he gets almost $155,000 a game. A game only lasts about 2 or 3 hours. If each game lasted 3 hours, that's $55,000 an hour (well for A-Rod). A doctor or lawyer needs to bust his/her butt for at least a month to see that and they are working way more than 3 hours a day.

the highest paying profession is quite random most of the time because a couple of months ago health care was in very huge demand and now its Lawyers if I am not mistaken but think of it this way but doesn't always pay the same but yeah the more risk involved is usually the higher paying, look at an astronaut an exact billion things could go wrong during pre-flight take off leaking gas as they flip the switch, holes in some of the oxygen tubes, crack in certain spots in the metal, and don't forget the two most deadliest... meteor showers and getting thrown off trajectory floating farther and farther into space with no way to return....ever :( wow that would suck lol

do you want money or happiness. usually they don't come together. The high paying jobs usually keep you away from your family so much that you lose them before long. But you can be a rich man without a heap in the bank. I'll take family/friends over monetary wealth any day.

this really doesn't have a single, meaningful answer.

It is influenced by where you work ( geographically, and what company) , how good you are, how much your company values what you do.

Starting a successful computer company does well - but , like every other job, no guarantee. Almost any engineering degree puts you on a good track.

As far as everyday careers go (not including entertainment/entertainers, successful business owners, etc.) The highest paid people in the US are anesthesiologists, surgeons, and physicians.
