It's generally pretty difficult to upset me, but something about that show pisses me off to no end. Gender roles irritate me quite a bit to begin with, and Betty, Wilma, Fred, and Barney... especially Fred and Wilma... are pretty much the epitomy of foolishness and stupidity as far as I'm concerned, a manifestion of all that is wrong with American culture, especially in past decades.

UGH!!!!!

I'm not saying that there aren't a WHOLE lot of really, really stupid shows out there... none of them piss me off the way the Flistones does though.

My issue is with the gender roles presented on the show.

The Flintstones was actually a parody of those traditional gender roles, and it was for adults. It ran in primetime, not saturday mornings.

I understand why you're upset, and I would be too if the show was a straightforward cartoon for kids. But it was actually a show for adults that was funny because it pointed out the ridiculousness of that sexist culture.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of cartoons that do exactly what you said, but the Flintstones is not one of them. Watch an episode with what I said in mind.

Waaaah it is a cartoon. And made a long time ago. Try finding something more important and revelant to stand up against other than the sexist tyranny of the flintstones. Which happened to be an excellent and entertaining cartoon which was set in caveman times so I' assuming women didn't have equal right just yet. If you wanted to get angry over childrens animation how about the jetson's, that was supposed to be the future and Jane didn' even have a job and she had to get money from george at the begining of every episode remember? Go burn your bra somewhere else, remember there are starving people in china and you're complaining about a cartoon.

I don't think I have ever paid much attention to the gender roles in the Flintstones cartoons. However, for the time period when that show came out(the 60's) that was the way things were, daddy went to work, mommy stayed home with the kids.

Have you watched any other children's cartoons recently? The Flinstones is far from the worst show on TV. Of course the gender roles are outdated. The show first aired in 1960. As in 47 years ago. If you don't like it, don't watch it and don't let your kids watch it. As far as I'm concerned, there are far worse shows that children are watching.

If you think the Flintstones is the epitomy of foolishness and stupidity, then you haven't seen any of the Spot shows! I can normally tune out lots of things, but Spot is so maddeningly annoying that if I were in a coma and heard it, I would no doubt start foaming at the mouth!

I agree with you on some points, but I think Tom and Jerry was a bad show for kids. Heads coming off, cats being sawed in half, guns blazing...

You are right and you are wrong. No it isn't the worst kids show ever, many of the nick shows take that title. But since it was made in the 60s it does have the "ideal" family values and characters in it. But you are right that sort of family was the downfall of past american families. People shouldnt follow its example. But it still isn't the worst show.

I could never stand the Flintstones either, but I think the Teletubbies take the title of worst ever.
