This is your child so it is the decision of you and Mommy. But given the time that we live in you must consider what this child may have to go through because of his name being Ali. What if you used Ali as his middle name? I personally feel that Cashus is a great name so how about considering that.
I just would never want my child picked on or beaten up because of what I named him/her. In this case it would be a double tragedy because you are trying to honor someone great like Mohamed Ali.
Just think hard before you decide.

People give their children non-american names all the time. The only thing you should remember is to keep in mind that he won't be a baby or child forever and the name you give him will be a name that you think will also represent him as an adult.

Do you know that Abdul and Latifa is also arab/muslim name..
Look at Paula Abdul and Queen Latifa, they both carried their name proudly and become among the powerful person in their field. So, if you like the name, use it....maybe your son will become the great person. Beside, i suggest you to check the meaning first.

I say you shouldn't worry if your Muslim or Arab.you should be able to choose the name because you like it and it fits your son.remember he is your son and you shouldn't try to please everyone else.of course there are going to be people who disagree but so what that is your right to name your son. what ever you decide it will be wonderful because it came from you and whats in your heart

I wouldn't if I wasn't muslim. If you still want to name him after the fighter, name him Casius Clay, or just Clay
