Personally, I do not believe it is about a time period so much, but rather that there is an underlying issue that when left unresolved, will eat away at a marriage or any relationship so to speak. Essentially, if it is a 3year or 7 year itch... there comes a time when one party or both will need to scratch. Which is followed by unhappiness and if not handled carefully will culminate in a divorce.
I believe that this will apply only to some couples as the longer a couple is together, the greater the possibility that the marriage will last.

Perhaps for younger couples but not quite true for couples who have been married 20+ years.
The term "7 yr itch" applies to a lot of other things. It is found that people have major job or career changes approx every 7 years. Certainly applied to me. Employers don't look too kindly on people who change jobs every 2 years but 7 years are respectable and every term you gain much seniority.

Definitely not all cases! We just celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary and we're happier and closer than ever! No itch here. We've been together for 6 years.

Better sooner than later, if people are going to be acting on this "itch." Chances are less (although not by much) that they have already had kids than at 7 years.

"J'ai habité en France pendant trois ans" The suggestion favoured by one answerer - "j'habitais en Franxce depuis 3 ans" - skill "I have been residing in France for 3 years".. And "J'ai habité en France depuis 3 ans" is in simple terms undeniable incorrect - you won't be able to declare that throughout the time of French.

3 year itch...hahahahahhahaha... sounds like a personal problem to me.. try getting some gold bond powder.. at three years you should still be doing it three times a day...signed, happily married husband of 25 years.
ps, we did it four times a day for about four and a half happy f'ing years....

id say most, but not all.
It depends on how you dated and choose your partner. did you base it on lust and how they look on the outside? If you did, yeah, youre gonna get bored and probably find out things you dont like so much on the inside as time goes by.
I see more sucess in marriages where the two are just blah plane jane looking but super nice people on the inside.
This is part of why I wont even be friends with women that wear makeup. when a girl does that they are actually setting themselves up for exactly what you just described.
