You need to tell your friend that she is not allowed to smoke around you, period. If she refuses to not smoke around you then you need to steer clear of her. Second hand smoke is worse than smoking yourself in a lot of cases. I was told by an OB/GYN that severe birth defects have been attributed to the use of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, etc. When my sister-in-law was pregnant with my nephew she smoked cigarettes the whole time and I (as well as most of my family) suspect that she smoked marijuana (and who knows if she did anything else). My nephew was born not breathing at first (although they did get him breathing) and he has a permanent birth defect. He is missing his right nipple and the muscles that should be underneath it. No one can say for sure whether is was from smoking or not, but why take a chance on your baby's health. If this person is a real friend she will respect your wishes and not smoke around you.

I have a friend who was on anti depressants before she was pregnant and also self soothing with marijuana. When she found out she was pregnant she HAD to stop taking her medication, but her doctor told her to continue to smoke pot to self soothe or it would just cause more stress on her and the baby if she had nothing to help her depression. He just advised her to definitely cut back on it and not to use it every day. Her son is now 13 months old and perfectly healthy and very smart. With that said, it is not usually advised to smoke marijuana during pregnancy because it deprives the baby of oxygen which can lead to problems. If you feel that you absolutely can't quit then you need to talk to your doctor about it so they know if any complications occur. My advice to you is to lay off the weed for the next 9 months (it really isn't that long) for your baby, because although there could be no complications, there also is a risk that there could be many and why do you want to even take that risk? Good luck and I suggest you definitely talk to your doctor about it.

The fact that there is suspicion around the effects of second hand marijuana smoke on the fetus would be enough to make me ask my friend to do that elsewhere or I would choose to leave when my friend is smoking pot.
If your friend needs to smoke up that bad then consider what is likely going to happen once the baby is born - will she need to smoke up around the baby? Will you be okay with that? I am well aware that social services/child welfare agencies would have a problem with someone smoking marijuana around a child and this only reflects poorly on you.
It might be worth tackling this issue now so it's not an issue once the baby is born.

Okay She is not smoking at your house. So there is no problem. Because if she is smoking at your house then there is the factor of second hand smoke. regular smoking can lead to premature baby and low weight in brith. And they have prove that second hand smoke can cause health issues. Weed is a stronger factor and it could cause side effects in the baby. Have you talk to your doctor about this and what should be done. if he say that it could effect the baby then ask her not to smoke at your house because you will still need the help around the house unto the baby is born.

The answer is yes. I do not smoke (anything) or drink but I do know that smoke from weed can affect you and your baby. I did not hang around any of my family or friends who did smoke the stuff because I have seen what it has done to there kids and other family members kids. I has caused problems like: ear infection, low birth weight, the children tend to be distant even at birth, they do not cry as much, have heart murmurs and some (in those who smoke) small limbs or funny shaped body parts. In some of our male children the testes and penis tend to be deformed. In some of our females they tend to have some problems in the spinal areas. This is not science but I have seen second hand smoke effect some but not all. If your friend cared about you or your child or even herself she will not smoke around you or even her own children. It really makes a difference in the last 8-9 months. FYI...even if your man smokes or drinks his sperm can also cause defects in your child is he is high or drunk at the time of conception.

I'm not really sure about weed honestly, i know a lot of people who actually have smoked weed while they were pregnant and had healthy babies, but even second hand smoke from cigarettes can effect your unborn baby. So I'm sure any kind of smoke could reach your baby in some kind of way. I have friends also that smoke weed.. i just try to avoid them while they're smoking or try to sit close to somewhere with fresh air like beside a window or something. The only effect i know of that weed does to you, is kill brain cells, that's why I dont risk it, considering that the babies brain is growing..although, i'm not even sure if it effects the baby. i wouldn't risk it though.

No matter what I don't think your friend should be smoking weed in your presence. Not only is the smoke probably bad for you and your unborn child if for any reason someone smelled this they could report you and say that you were smoking it while you are pregnant. Doesn't look good. Tell your friend while you appreciate her helping you out that you just won't permit her smoking in your presence or your home.

Any form of smoke is bad for the health and development of an unborn baby. I gave up smoking weed during both of my pregnancies due to this fact. I would advise you to ask your friend not to smoke around you, and especially after the baby is born. Make her do it outside.

Being around anything that you inhale such as cig smoke, mj smoke, household cleaners, cat litter, etc, can possibly harm your baby. You breathe this stuff in and it goes into your blood stream where it finds its way to your baby.
If you were smart, and cared for the living being inside you, you'd ask her to respect you and not even bring that stuff to your house. Maybe she should get some help.
Here's an idea, ask your doctor....He'd probably think you were crazy as well as think you are a low level person. He may even laugh in your face or call CPS. Would you want them to take your baby when it's born because you tested positive for marijuana even though you didn't smoke it?

Im going to say the same thing I say to those we are either around people who smoke...or smoke (or drink) themselves while pregnant...would you walk up to a kid and give him a drag or a drink? I don't think so...so don't allow someone to let you get second hand smoke which goes to your baby.
