I want to set up a network at home so i can play some LAN games with my friends and share files and printers with my family. i have a netgear wireless router that has a 4 port switch with 2 Ethernet cables and i also have 2 usb wireless adapters (i would like to use these if possible) we have 3 desktops in separate rooms. Can someone give me a step by step on how to set a network up? and also how to set up additional computers when my friends are over? thanx

Click on Start > Search and type in Setup Network.

XP has full network capabilities and there is no need to be on the internet.

Xp,or vista have easy to use network setups if your computer that is the master fr the network has internet you have to make sure that internet sharing is off otherwise they can connect the easiest way to connect these is by ethernet (cat5) bt since you ave wireless you could buy wifi cards for each of the computers and when friends come over you can add them on the netwrok i suggest you put a wep or a wpa-tsk or somethin to protect it from intruders/hackers/crackers and any other ppl

Hello:

Well, it can be easy, but time consuming. And it varies from configuration to configuration. Mixing wired and wireless technologies can complicate it a bit. Rather than write pages of stuff down myself, I'm going to point you to some cool sites with step-by-step instructions. You'll have to ignore the parts that pertain specifically to Internet connections and some parts of ICS.

Some folks get this right away, others struggle. Be prepared to do a little troubleshooting along the way.

Hope this helps. :-)

Cheers!

Just set it up the same as you would if you had an Internet connection, just minus the external connection. The router has a built in DHCP server and 4 port switch (I'm assuming, because most of them do and you didn't specify a model #)
