(1,1) and (4,4) are on the line y=x, grad=1
(1,5) and (4, 8) are on the line y=x+4, grad=1

These two lines are parallel because the gradients are equal.

(1,1) and (4,4) are on the line y=x, grad=1
(-1,1) and (-4,4) are on the line y=-x, grad=-1

These two lines are perpendicular because the product of their gradients is -1.
