most bond companies keep the bond active for the original charge because:
1. they can make money on bonds for other charges
2. the bond company knows exactly where the guy is......he can't skip bail while he is in jail

one reason for surrendering the bond would be if the guy is going to be in jail for any lenght of time, there is a possibility he can be accruing time toward the sentence on the bonded charge......but can only accrue time IF the bond is surrendered and the charges are put back on the guy while he is in jail.

as far as what happens, if the guy is bondable on the new charge and has money for a bond, he will get out. if he doesn't have the money and no one is willing to put the money up for him, he will sit there.

now, if you are asking what will happen upon conviction because he was arrested for something new...............Judges look at criminal history, conduct while on bond, liklihood of recividism, etc for sentencing.

The bond will more than likely be revoked. Part of the bail agreement is that said person does not participate in illegal activity or get arrested while on bail.

Any crime is usually violation of the bond. That means he is likely to be held in jail until at least one of the charges is resolved.
