Digital thermometer! I was a little shocked to receive one for my first daughters birth from a family member with 4 kids! It ended up being the item I used most and I still have the same one 3 kids and 12 years latter! Also it was something I wouldn't really be able to afford myself at the time, with the cost of everything else for bub.

I'm a grandma now but my daughter found that she didn't ask for enough onesies (babies can go through two or three a day sometimes), enough wash cloths, diapers (you can never have enough), and if you're breastfeeding (bless you!) don't forget to ask for a breastfeeding cover so you can have privacy in the hospital but not make your family wait outside and when you're out and about, you can feed your baby whenever s/he is hungry, without people staring. Try the Peek-a-Boo B Nursing Cover at www.CaydenCreations.com. Real easy to use and plenty of coverage. Folds up very small too!
Best wishes for a very happy pregnancy and a wonderful experience with your baby!

Baby laundry detergent... You don't have to use Dreft... Use All Free n Clear it's a lot cheaper usually around $12 for 300 oz. and get some OxyClean baby stain remover.. Opt for the diaper genie thingie that doesn't take refills it takes regular sized kitchen trash bags.... Bibs lots of bibs....

there is a kit at babies R us that has Tylonel, motrin, teething tablets etc. I thought at first ummmm ok but when you wake up at 2 am and your baby is teething at 3 months or has a fever, you will be so happy that you have all of that there. It is things you are going to need anyway.
For my shower my friends had a drawing for anyone that wanted to participate. To enter you had to bring a package of diapers (any size and brand) They gave away movie tickets and I had enough diapers for about 9 months of his life. That was awesome!!!

cups, spoons, little bowls and little plates. I really like the disposable/reusable first years ones. I didn't think to put them on my registry but thank goodness someone gave them to me. One day I decided to try giving my son a sippy cup and I was glad I had some already. When it came time to start solids it was also nice to have the supplies ready.
