Depending on your system, if its explorer 7 then it might just be one of the bugs in it, however I would scan your system for viruses, internet explorer quit working on my computer a year ago, and I have never bothered to correct the problem, I did remove a couple viruses, but I started using Mozilla Firefox and I find it 100 times more stable than internet explorer.

If it is a recent problem you can try the system restore option to restore your OS to an earlier date before the problem arose. I assume you are running XP? You can access system restore by going to start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore. Click on a date a couple weeks ago to restore to that date, if that doesn't work try an earlier date than that. You won't lose any data added after the date you selected.
It's saved me more than once. You can also use any web browser to access the internet, I myself use Opera which you can d/l from www.opera.com. Of course if you can't get IE to work this will be difficult to do.
Last resort would be to do a complete re-install using your back up discs that came with the pc. This would erase your hard drive in the process so be sure and back up all your data you wish to save to a recordable cd/dvd first. Good luck.

Internet Explorer 7 has had problems. It periodically locks up for me as well - but haven't had permanent blockage.
You can also go the microsoft discussion group site to get serious details and read some stories and solutions.
