Dogs of course! Cats get very self-centered. I know because I've lived with both cats and dogs and came to the conclusion that dogs are a better pet. They're more protective, better companion and when you're talking to them they actually seem to be listening. Cats look at you with a blank stare.

I think cats are better pets than dogs but I love both.We have 6 indoor-only cats and they are all unique. They are cleaner, smell better than dogs (no matter how often you wash a dog they always SMELL doggie...their breath...they eat poop, ya know) and cats are generally low-maintenance. We can leave them alone for a week and have done so several times. With enough dry cat food, plenty of water, and MANY (6) clean litter boxes they are quite content and do very well. I just love their quirkiness and the fact that they don't suck-up to you quite as bad as dogs do.

Cats are better. You can have them inside only if you prefer (just teach them to use the litter box which is really easy to do). You never have to get up in the middle of the night to let the cat out or take a cat for a walk or give a cat a bath. And if you want to go away for a few days, just fill up several bowls of food and water and go - no worries about who will care for them. Plus if you take care in choosing your kitten, you can find some with great personalities (our cats do).

It depends upon two things, your circumstance, and in part, your personality. I've had and loved both.
Dogs are great and loyal friends. However, you do have to make sure they are walked daily, taken out to do their business (unless you have a fenced yard, then you have to pick up poo). They are interactive, and they need attention. It's hard to leave a dog alone for a week and be gone.
Cats are also great and loyal friends. A cat adopts you first, rather than visa versa. If your personality can handle that they sometimes like to be alone, they can be great cuddlers, and very comical. They also can learn to walk on lead, mine does. However, he can be left alone in the house with an automatic food and water bowl, he doesn't have to be taken outside to do his business, and I do have to clean the litter box once a week.

It depends on how much time you have to offer them. A cat is very independent i have 2. and dogs need allot of attention. I also have 2 dogs. I love all my cats and dogs. but I'm a little closer to my dogs thoe...there all great! :)
