Technically there is no legal age. In some cases where the judge may feel the child is old enough to have input they will consider the wishes of the child... along with the living situations, etc to make a determination, but the courts do not decide where a child lives based on the child's wishes alone.

I live in Indiana, and the legal age for the child to decide is 14 years old. You might try doing a search under your Texas court system and see what you can find.
