We used to eat wild rabbits all the time
when I was a little girl. We never had any
health problems from eating them.
We also ate Squirell, Quail, Deer, Turtle.
Times were hard.

You can catch diseases from any animal you kill and dress (remove the skin and organs) if you put your hands in your mouth, nose or eyes without washing your hands thoroughly and after removing your clothes or apron, if you wore one. And then you have to wash the meat and cook it to a temperature high enough to kill most germs.

If you ate it raw, you're at higher risk, and the longer you let the meat sit unrefrigerated or unfrozen, the more likely you are to get sick.

Well, I was raised on wild game - rabbit, quail, squirrel, and deer. My mom even fried some turtle from our ditch. My whole family are wild game hunters, and we never once got any thing from eating anything. But, you have to make sure that you hunt in the right season for rabbit because if not they have worms and that isnt' good.

OLD FOLKS USED TO CALL IT RABBIT FEVER, I DON'T KNOW THE PROPER NAME FOR IT, BUT YOU CAN CATCH A DISEASE FROM THE RABBITS BLOOD, ALSO THE BLOOD FROM OTHER SPECIES. I ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GLOVES WHEN I PROCESS MEAT, AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU COOK IT DONE, YOU WON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS IF YOU FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES.
