Day Lilies are one of those plants that take care of themselves. Just plant them in the ground and water occasionally. They do well in both sun and shade. They don't mind being transplanted or divided. They're not too picky about their soil either. You can't go wrong with a day lily.

Daylilies will grow almost anywhere, but if you want your plants to thrive, not just survive, then check out these precautions and procedures
Give your daylilies a minimum daily dose of six hours of direct sun to do their best.
They're not fussy about soil, but well drained soil is vital. A good basic garden soil comprised of a mixture of peat moss, humus, and compost is ideal. If the soil contains too much clay like material and tends to compact, add sand to ensure good drainage.
For more blooms, apply a “complete” fertilizer in the spring or early summer, and a low nitrogen fertilizer in the late summer or early fall. Older gardens may have “spent” much of their nutrients and require more organic amendments such as manure or compost.
While daylilies can withstand drought because of their fleshy roots, they bloom more when they get all the water they need. So give plenty of water, at least 1 inch a week. Give the soil a chance to drain well before you water again.
Mulching will help to maintain a more consistent soil temperature and also help retain moisture. Keep mulch back from the crown.
