It means you pressed the traction control button, find it (if you cant, look it up in your owners manual) And press it again and the light will go off. Good luck!

That's your Traction Control. It's technically called ETS - Enhanced Traction System. There are only a few circumstances where the "Trac Off" (aka traction off) light will come on, which, of course, means your traction control system is turned off.
Reasons It Will Come On:
If you're driving in 1st or 2nd gear (assuming your car's an automatic; I don't know if this is the same in sticks), or
If you have your emergency brake on while the engine is running.
Sometimes the "Trac Off" light might come on if you're on a VERY bumpy road, but it won't stay on for long - at least it shouldn't. If the "Trac Off" light comes on and stays on and you're NOT in 1st or 2nd gears, and your emergency brake is NOT in use, then you need to get it looked at because that's not normal.
The "Low Trac" (aka low traction) light will come on when you're on slippery roads and your tires start spinning. That's normal. It helps limit wheel spin. It'll go off again when your tires find traction again. I experience this most in snow and ice. Also, on rainy roads, if I'm stopped at an intersection and then pull out a bit too fast & the tires start spinning, the "Low Trac" light will come on briefly, but will go back off once I gain traction again. Again, if this, too, stays on constantly even in dry road conditions, you need to get it looked at because it's not normal.

When your Trac Off light comes on...Don't panic. It simply means that your traction is off for your tires. The traction simply helps the tires get a better grip on the road in wet weather and such. Depending on the make of car that you have there should be a button on the dash or on the gear shift in which you can turn this feature back on.

I own a 2006 Pontiac GTO that can really spin the back tires and may cause loss of control. I can manually ask the engine control to turn off traction control by using a button on the console. Most Pontiac's after 1997 have a driver information center or light as a reminder you turned track -off and may be in for some wheel spin if accelerate is pushed to hard. My rear wheel drive car can smoke the rear tires with trac off and slide sideways if that is your thing. But safer "track on" kills the throttle before I spin out on wet pavement... BUT.... Really good drivers do not like artificial drivers aids. I turn "Track Off" on a lot. And I can let off the gas and brake almost as fast as the computer can. But under adverse conditions most every driver become almost a great driver with Traction control and dynamic controls incorporated into anti locking brake systems these days.

it means the traction control is off there should be a button near the light to get it off there should also be a light that says low trac which means the tires have low traction

There is a sensor that controls the ETS in most GM model cars that come equipped with this feature. Are any other lights on? I had it come on and off intermittently at one time, and it actually turned out something seemingly unrelated was the problem. Computerized cars are fickle - one system out can cause a wealth of problems unrelated.

It means that your traction system has kicked in, b/c the cars wheels are "slipping". your owners manual advises you to turn the traction system off in really bad weather.
My traction control light would also come on and stay on when I needed a break job.
