I mean if it's called a jellyfish, then it should have some sort of jelly in there. Are they really poisonous? My mom told me they were poisonous. Are they really?

Okay then. Jelly fish do NOT have jelly of any kind inside of them. They, like slugs, have no bones or cartilage what so ever. Instead, they have a very tough outer membrane that keeps them together. And yes, there are some species of jelly fish that are VERY deadly to humans and other aquatic life forms.

Oh dear...you are so naive. They called jellyfish because it look like jelly, TRANS PARENTS, meaning you can see trough it even though a bit blur and if you have a chance to touch it ...it feel the same like touching jelly, supple. Some of them are poisonous, most of them only get your skin itching. that's when you accidentally or on purpose touching its tentacles, in the sea. if you find it stranded on shore, you won't feel athing. crabs, seagulls and some ants already eating them. ahh and jellyfish is a tasty meal if you know how to cook it.
The most poisonous one, portugese ship/man o'war (it look like a portuguese ship or the helmet of portuguese warrior ) live in aegian sea. when you get stung by its tentacles, just wait for few minutes .....yeah ...you have wings on your shoulder.

Yeah, they go great with peanutbutterfish! :-)

No, they are made up of cells, not jelly.

The bodies are not poisonous, but their pneumatocysts (stinging cells) have poison-tipped "darts" inside them that burst out through the cell wall and into anything that brushes against them.
