First, you're a strong man to come out and say you want to stop. I don't know you, but I think you must be a great guy to want to stop for your family!
Depending on how how much one drinks, how long and how powerful the need is, and please bear in mind, I'm not saying anything to be judgemental, because alcohol is a handy relief from stress at work, stress at home, and everywhere in between. I know...
Would you consider seeking professional help? I don't necessarily suggest a psychiatrist, but a counsellor who can help you sort out what precisely is the trigger that makes you want to have a drink, and how to avoid it. A good analogy would be to have someone help you spot the trap so you can step around it without triggering the claymores...
There are cases where the need to drink is so powerful willpower alone may not be enough to stop it, there are medications that can help. It doesn't sound as though it's that advanced, five beers an evening is a commonly accepted warning sign that it's serious, so with a little help... It is not a character failing, not a sign of weakness or anytihng like that, it is an illness, plain and simple, just like any other bodily illness, but you can get better, and I think you will.

The first thing you need to do is find an AA meeting somewhere and go. Just because you only drink four cans of beer a day does no mean you don't have a problem. Two tell your family what is bothering you and then try to talk things out instead of bickering. The may help I have been there and it is all hard and it will get harder before it gets better. Good luck to you.

i think the only way you will be able to lead a peaceful life is by accepting jesus christ. you will never be in peace if you dont. in the Matthew it says"no one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one nad love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
You cant have peace and drink at the same time. God is the only one that can help you to stop drinking. My dad when i was born was always drinking alot, but then he found God and he helped him to stop drinking. my dad now lives a spiritual life. and i am glad or i dont know where i would be.
the verse is Matthew 6:24

depending on how old u are.....if u r a dad and have a family then its not good to drink everyday like that especially if it is causing you and your family misery....my dad is an alchoholic and it "helped" screw up his life and tear our family apart
but if you dont have a family of your own then i would say dont be a quiter...it will get you no where in life to quit!!

I'm really glad you caught this before it goes any further. Find the nearest AA meeting and give it a try. I'm not going to say it works for everyone, but it can work if you really want to be sober. I truly hope you do find serenity.
