Never wear all black or all white to any audition, unless asked to. This is true for theater and camera (film, tv) auditions.
Many audition rooms have dark or black backgrounds, and you will blend into the background. Most auditions throw strong lights at the actor, and white will make you glare.
Don't wear big or flowing clothes - wear something that shows what you look like. You want to look your best, and be comfortable, but don't use the clothes to disguise what you look like. Also, unless the part really calls for it, don't dress up too much.
For theater, dress in a way that is compatible with the part, without wearing a costume. If you are auditioning for the girl next door, don't dress super-sexy. If you are auditioning for a pirate, don't wear a business suit.
For a tv commercial, if they are looking for a cheerleader character, and you have a cheerleader outfit, you may want to wear it.
If you are going to be videoed (film or tv audition, or a taped audition to get into a theater school, for example) you should also avoid bright red and small patterns.
OK. Lots of rules. But within these rules, wear something you like that makes you feel comfortable.

You should never wear black tights to a classical ballet audition. Like if it's for a summer intensive, most places won't let you audition. The classical attire is simple black leo, pink tights, pink slippers/point shoes (if asked), and a slick bun with no fly away's. Making a good impression is important. It shows your professionalism. If this is not a classical ballet audition, maybe modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, etc. You might be able to wear black tights. Also if it's a low key audition at a local studio then you may be able to, but console someone before because you don't want to show up being the only one in black tights. It's uncomfortable.

There are two fields of thought on this: you could wear all black, or you could try to stand out. But, if you stand out in the wrong way (for example, the part they are looking to cast is a nerdy person, and you come in looking like a punk rocker), that could hurt your chances.
Your safest bet (if you don't know anything about the part) is to go with something generic, like all black. But, you do want to be remembered, so try to jazz it up a bit.

NO! do not wear all black, what a bland statement. Wear something professional but tasteful. One black piece of clothing is fine but you're not going there to be an usher or a waitress. Show your personality through your clothes but don't go over board.

Wear whatever makes you feel the most confident. If it's all black than do it. But, since you are questioning whether or not you should...it probably means you aren't comfortable with the idea. So look around and find something else :)
Good luck!!

Try wearing a black leotard, or black shirt with gray pants and black shoes. The gray will make you stand out more!

Depending on the part you are auditioning for, dress for the part. If it is a serious part, black is probably good. If it is a bright happy part, wear bright colors. (orange or yellow, etc.)
