I realize how bad it was 30 years ago and I also know of certain that situations that occurred recently. But wouldn't casting off all cops as evil be the same thing when cops 'profile' in the urban community?

isn't saying that all cops stereotype stereotyping them?

Its one thing for criminals to hate police but why would the people take the sides of criminals?

Thanks for making me feel old with the 30 years ago comment :)

Seriously though check out the experiences of other cultures. The poorest in a society often catch the most hell. Some easily to find material would be Bruce Lee's comments about the behavior of Hong Kong cops when he was growing up. His experience is similar to and shared by poor people throughout the world. Hip Hop came out of this culture, so there will obvioulsy be an expression of animosity by the culture and an embracement of this expression.

However as hip hop becomes a pop culture, many people take their cues about behavior and attitude from a cultural experience that is not intrinisically their own. But overall it will end up being a good thing. Many people were not hippies in the 60's but were heavily influenced by the ideas and culture and made resulting life decsions based on their experiences.

There is not really that much true hate for the police anymore. Some rappers really hate the police but others just say that stuff in their songs so it can become popular with "old school" hip hop fans. Many now are figuring that if a person liked the NWA song F the police and they are now famous and rich (well at least some) then if they say the same things they will become famous and rich as well, it is just a marketing plan that is used now that started off with true hatred for the police.

To keep it real, it's hatred for the police because theres some crooked cops out there! And plus, they so call think that hip hop is the reason for most violence, and they come at them wrong because of it. And another thing, the majority of the people in hip hop have been in jail or has done a certain kinds of crimes before, so thats another reason why they aren't to fond of the police! "You can take them out the hood, but you can't take the hood out them"!

police will let a white person away with more than with a black person, just becasue the police are racist and think the black person will break the law more than the white person
police were jerks to the urban community first, so no it wouldn't be evil to be displaying cops as racists when the hip hop community expresses their feelings in their music

30 years ago? try half of that...the rodney king beating might ring a bell, the videotaped beating of a black man resisting arrest (if you havent seen the video just google/youtube it)..the four police officers in the video were acquitted by a predominately white jury, which led to the LA riots in '92..through history police have gotten off easy where as regular citizens might have gone to prison, especially in race generated crimes, that maybe why there is so much hatred for police in the hip hop community.

Hip Hop looking folks say they are always assumed to be up to nothing good and cops stop them and suspect them to an excess, then treat them unfairly.
I just can't figure out why police would target them?

The brutality and racism. One time I was in the store in 404, and I was leaving there. I was walking out the door and I reached in my coat pocket. The security guard (a white male) start looking at me, seeing what I got. Then he gon say, let me see what you got there. I'm what the hell. You ain't search no other person, but you see a black dude, and thinking let me be a hero, this guy might have some bombs. I felt like boxing that fat donut eating punk.

Um. I don't really get what your saying but most rappers grew up in the hood getting harassed by cops so they don't really have resecpt for cops. I agree with the guy who wrote before me.
