This is an ongoing argument that presidential historians like to have from time to time. Unfortunately it is always colored by their particular political perceptions, so it isn't really fair to judge presidents under whom you actually lived during their presidencies. Hence you'll get lame-brained input such as our current president. I was no fan of Clinton's either but I am not ready to judge him just yet. History takes a much longer view and is a lot kinder to presidents after a few years (and the real impact of what they did begins to make itself known). Remember this---and take heart---Truman left office in 1953 with one of the lowest approval ratings of any president..including this one now. He is now perceived in a much kinder light.

Having said all that, the bottom five, in no particular order seem to be Grant, Harding, Tyler, Fillmore (and/or Buchanan), and Nixon.

And, I will be willing to bet that Nixon's star will rise somewhat in about another 50 years.

2. Nixon (talk about a power hungry jerk: Watergate, etc.)
3.Calvin Coolidge (friend to business, cause of great depression)
4. George W. Bush (Iraq, Libby, Haliburton, etc.)
