If i want to connect a router do i have to connect a crossover cable or can i just use a normal ethernet cable to hook up the router. The reason i would like to do this is for wireless internet in my room. thanks

Just a normal Ethernet cable, the crossover cables are to directly connect two computers together, without a router or switch.
PS, change the default password, in your router.

Cross-over cables are only for connecting pc to pc. To connect a router to an ehternet system you should use a straight cable as the router will have auto-detect for cable layout and cross-over may confuse it.

Your Ethernet hooks up to your external modem if you have one and it hooks up to a television cable and that is how you get on line.
