Why does Dirk Gently not get the respect he deserves? There is so much focus on H2G2 and little to none on DG. I will admit there is an option on a new TV series and supposedly some fan radio show. But he deserves so much more.

Frustrating, isn't it?! I love that book, more than Hitchhiker's Guide (all due respect to that series).

Have you read The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul? Also fabulous and hysterical. You'll get to know Odin and Thor in whole, new ways... I can't imagine that you could have missed it, but if so you really must read it immediately. It is also my favorite Douglas Adams book, tied with Dirk.

And, btw, most of the best things in life get little or no respect in general. I always joke that if I like something, it's the kiss of death. It'll go out of print or get cancelled or whatever. But, actually, it's a good thing. If you like something that seems like it gets no respect, it means that you think for yourself and are able to recognize that which is valuable without someone telling you to.

:( Eh, the everyday "public" is a fickle group that is more into pretty faces than witty plotlines... I mean, look how long it took them to finally figure out that HGTG would be a cool movie too? And it still didn't get very much press. Alas, I found the book much more entertaining than a movie. They usually have to condense stuff too much when converting it to the big screen...

That being said, I haven't seen ANY publicity about Dirk Gently. I'm not a die-hard fan of Douglas Adams, but I have enjoyed reading his works that I've read so far, so I'm going to have to go look for this book now! Thanks!

Who else could say something like:

"Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all."
