Its A/C for a house.

Home a/c uses a different type of freon.
Why do you think it needs a recharge?
Check the condensor fan motor if its blowing warm air into the house. This is the fan that cools the condensor coils in the main a/c unit. A common failure. It should turn on when the a/c is turned on. Ask yourself if you can afford a new unit if you damage it by "charging it" yourself.
Call an expert. The last service call I paid for was $350.

Most likely, your home AC uses R-22. It should be done by a professional. The cost of the freon has gotten quite high, and you can damage the compressor if you overcharge. You will also need a set of air conditioning gauges.

Let the pro inspect it and determine why you have a leak in the freon. He should also inspect the "A" coil too. good luck.

For a car, if it use the 134A then you can buy what you need at the auto parts store, wal-wort and many places. I think Dollar General have the freon, but, not sure of the hose to install. Auto parts store be best as they can give you some pointers of how to do it.

IF, your vehicle use R-12 then a professional has to do it as you can not buy. But, it hard to find Professionals now with R-12. Some use a replacement/Substitute, but, it too you need a license.

A/C SYSTEMS REGARDLESS OF BEING HOME OR AUTO ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY,FOR BOTH RUN AT VERY HIGH PRESURES AND CAN BE DANGEROUS,HOME SYSTEMS RUN ON R22,IT'S AN INDUSTRIAL GRADE HYDROCLORALFLORELMETHAINE,I DON'T THINK IT'S AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC OVER THE COUNTER,AND ONLY COMES IN 30 LB CONTAINERS WICH REALLY ADDS UP,YOUR HOUSE SYSTEM IF TOTALLY EVACUATED OR EMPTY MAY HOLD AROUND 5OR6 LBS GIVE OR TAKE.KNOWING THE RIGHT PORT TO CONNECT TO IS VERY IMPORTANT,ALL IN ALL WITHOUT SOME EXPERIENCED HELP IT'S BEST LEFT TO THE EXPERIENCED!!!

You should have it done by a professional. Cost will be comparable compared to what you would have to pay due to having to purchase some items to do the job. Also, there is the safety factor. It is somewhat dangerous stuff. In addition, if you spend the money for the charge and then muff it youve lost even more. Take my advice and go to a reputable garage for that little chore. You wont be sorry.
