The Jack and Rose relationship was fictional, but the setting was based on the true historical event.

Interesting fact: On a memorial for Titanic victims, a "J. Dawson" is listed as one of the names. Many fans of the movie believe this to be Jack, but it hasn't been confirmed.

Yes Titanic was a real ship and did sink back on April 14, 1912.

As for the Jack and Rose story that was fake.

No, The director added that in there so you will enjoy a love two and also find out what happen to the Titanic. But there was real passengers on that boat named Rose and Jack but I am pretty sure they have never met.

The love story itself was fiction, but most of the people around them were real.

Recommended Reading- "A Night to Remember" by Walter Lord.
Also: The History Channel; they've made lots of shows about the Titanic.

Nope. They also made up the whole "boat sinks after hitting an iceberg" thing, too, for dramatic effect.
