Simply put, their desperate. Although at times Schaub showed as "flashes" of potential, I still don't see how that justifies into a near 50 million dollar contract for an unproven QB. He is a great, recent example of what happened with Rob Johnson in the late 90's. Johnson comes in for an injured Mark Brunell in Jacksonville, He throws some game winning TD's, shows us very smiliar "flashes" of brilliance, and all of a sudden becomes extremely hyped. He goes to a rebuilding Buffalo team the year later, and stinks up the place, ultimately being replaced by Doug Flutie, who turned out to be a much better QB than Johnson. The point of that story was that just because someone has their 15 minutes of greatness, doesn't mean it's going to be consistent. Especially if the QB hasn't played a lot, and is on a rebuilding team, just like Schaub is facing right now.
In a nutshell, teams are desperate for franchise QBs. The Favre's, Montana's, Marino's, Elway's, and Peyton Manning's come once in a blue moon; and as soon as a team, in desperate need for a QB, sees some young gun flinging the ball around and looks spectacular for only a couple of seconds, their hooked to him like hes heroin. Personally, I feel Schaub is a good backup, maybe good enough to be an average starter if you work with him well and have talent around him. But until Houston sorts out that pitiful offensive line, and gets a decent receiver to compliment Andre Johnson, i sense Schaub will not fair well in Houston.

His experience is limited but he has shown enough flashes of brilliance to convince people that he has a tremendous amount of potential( see Tony Romo also).
The Texans enthusiasim for Schaub may also in part be a measure of contempt for David Carr who many in the organization blame for the club's woes. In my opinion the Texans have not addressed their woeful offensive line problems. Matt Schaub is about to learn that you can't throw 30 TD's a season when you get sacked 60 times a year. Futhermore, the Texans have only 1 decent receiver.

Well, it should be painfully obvious to Texans fans that they're front offive doesn't have a clue what they're doing. I think he's been overhyped. He's completely unproven as an NFL QB. To think he's going to turn that team around when they still have a horrible o-line and only one real recieving threat is wishful thinking.

I completely agree... I think Carr was a really good QB.... but what can you do when your O-Line sucks balls and everyone knows your gonna throw it to your only player that can catch or run in Andre Johnson?

For the same reason they drafted Mario Williams, cut David Carr and STILL haven't drafted an offensive lineman in the first round.
They just don't make good personel decisions, that's all.

No...you're not the only one. In fact, when he gets behind that turnstyle of an offensive line, if they are still as bad as they have been, he is gonna end up on that fresh turf diet that Carr was on when he was there. Yummmmmm......you know what they say....anything green is good!!!
