Leave out his favourite food with some water and wait....if he comes back he's yours to keep......if he doesn't come back he might have joined a biker gang and is living his dream! Riding free with his little leather jacket and helmet!

Let's not jump to conclusions. Search the room his cage was in, especially behind and underneath large objects like couches, etc. If you can't find him, search the rest of the house. It may be a good idea, if possible, to try and "seal" rooms (i.e. cover the gap underneath) so the hamster can't easily run into different rooms while you're going crazy looking for it.

I've heard many stories where the hamster, or other pet, was found behind the fridge, so try checking there. Make sure to check all the very small hiding places, even if you think it's too small for him to get into. Hamsters can squeeze into almost any place.

If after searching you still cannot find him, try making a trail of food (veggies, seeds, raisins, special hamster treats, etc) either to the cage, or into the middle of the room or something, and then wait. Hopefully they will find the food, and you can catch your hamster!

All the best.

Hamsters like places that are climbable and burrow-able. I once found mine crawling around in the dryer. Check all the little nooks and crannys, and if that doesn't work, try getting a humane rat trap that lets animals in but not out, put it on your floor, and put in some cheese or a part of a tomato or a really smelly food. Then wait. If you still can't find him, you might want to find a pet that you're less-likely to not see.

Keep looking, sweetie. If he "just escaped," he's still alive.

Look in corners and cubbies and holes and against walls and under things since he will be scared and these are good areas to start looking.

If you have other animals, put them in another (safe) place so that they don't scare "Teddy."

Don't make noise...that will scare him more, especially since he is strange, unfamiliar surroundings. Be quiet while you look.

You can also try putting out his favorite food where you last saw in, and in surrounding areas, but realize that stressed animals will not eat or be driven toward food. They are looking for safe, quiet places.

I hope you find your baby...

P.S.: Have something to toss over him in the event that you find him. He's quicker than you...if you have a sheet or something, it will not only prompt him to stay, it cuts light, and therefore his immediate reactions.

your teddy's probably fine.. keep looking and make sure no snakes or moniters are loose too.

You might set down some shallow lids with water in them in case he isn't dead, and keep looking. They are remarkably resilient little animals.
