My roommate has a 1998 Kia Sophia that originally had a bad belt took it in to get it changed. They changed her belt a long with one of the barrings and ball joints in the front of the car. After she got her car back the squeaking noise came back when she would turn the AC on, then it starting doing it when the AC was off, but just for a minute or so.

She took it to another guy who then replaced her water pump, she also ended up getting ANOTHER belt as the new one was already getting worn.

Now, about a week later the car still squeaks with and without the AC on but now there's a new problem. It started out when she would put her car in reverse and turn the wheel the car would make this really loud squealing noise and then the wheel would lock. She would have to jerk it really hard to get it to unlock. That went on for a few days...and now the car squeals a lot while just driving and if she turns a lot to the left or right the wheel will lock.

Her power steering fluid is full.

She has spent so much money with the repairs. Does anyone have an idea of what she definitively needs this car checked for?

Should she take it to the Kia dealership, or will she be paying out the butt there too?

Pengy, damp out? It hasn't rained here in weeks! We are in a serious drought...so I doubt it has anything to do with being damp due to weather...

I'd keep the receipts and take it to Kia. She may pay, but they will fix it properly and on time. Likewise, if the places she took it to previously in anyway put on faulty parts, have her keep the parts- all of them and ask for her money back. I had to do this with Pep Boys in NY- and they returned 9,000.00 of "parts and labor" they suppossedly did with our car- and put on faulty parts or no changes in the parts they claimed to have fixed. They did so after telling them I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau and calling an attorney.
Good Luck!

Belts squeal when it is damp out get some belt ease to spray on them, the locking of the steering wheel in another thing sounds like the power steering unite is bad, which could also cause a belt to wear out
