Wild card comes out of the West. no question. The Astors put most of their eggs in the Clemens basket, and now they are paying the price with a terrible team. I really thought Carlos Lee would have propelled them to the World Series again, sad.

The Astros are typically a great second-half team under Garner, though they will miss not having Clemens.
A lot will depend whether within the organization they think they have a chance - and whether they will be buyers or sellers.
Getting Adam Everett back will be key - expect him and Loretta to be the DP combination and Biggio to go to the bench how that he has 3,000.
I don't know if I think the Astros will make the wild-card, but unlike most others who are answering - I see no reason why the WIld Card can't come out of the Central. Do not count the Cubs, Cardinals, or Astros out - a lot of baseball left.
Go Cards!

Unfortunately, "Berkman, Lee, Pence, Oswalt" is the bulk of the talent on this club, and there needs to be 21 other players.

umm no thats not gonna happen sorry
The padres will win the wild card
its only a matter of time before pence starts slowing down...he has a horrible strikeout to walk ratio...a prolonged slump is inevitable...enjoy his performances while you can
Oswalt and his bad back...how long is that going to hold up?
Berkman...pitchers are going to abuse the holes in his swing come august and september.
Lee will be fine and he'll carry the houston astros...one man can't do it all, he'll need help
unless a couple more players step up and put up good consistent numbers in a convincing fashion especially against top notch opponents, I see the astros missing the playoffs this year

Um, No not the Astros. I appreciate your passion but I'm in the same boat with my Cards. To make the postseason in the central your gonna have to win it.
I say the Phillies out of the East. They've got a really strong team and after a dreadful start have really came around. I don't see them slowin down at all in the second half.

I'm sorry to upset but the N.L wild card is coming out of the West in the form as either the Dodgers, Padres,or Diamondbacks. You look at the standings now
San Diego 46-34
Las Angeles 46-36
Arizona 46-37
Obviously its easy to tell that there will be two teams from that division in the playoffs this year. Duh.

Too bad they are currently more than ten games out of the wild card, and the teams ahead of them- or at least San Diego, Arizona, and Atlanta- have much better teams than they do right now. Otherwise, Houston would be a good wild card team.

The Braves out of the East. The Brewers out of the Central and the Padres out of the West. Your wild card team will be the Mets. mark it down that it will be this way.
