Ok, so my girlfriend and I have been dating since Nov.28 of '06 and well we really like each other and all that good stuff, the only problem is her parents. 1st of all her dad is racist, and her mom isnt, but she doesnt really have authority when it comes to her hanging out with me. She usually tells her to ask her dad which in return says no. So I ask yall, has anyone been in this sort of situation? If so, what have you done to make things better?

I'm married and go through stupid racist issues with my own inlaws.......Pray for him..and you can show her dad that all of one race aren't the same....be different then he expects you to be...most of all show him respect...maybe then he'll see that you're different and allow you to go out with his daughter....If you disrespect him in any way you'll just give him something else to add to his racist thoughts.....
you have to accept him as he is if you are intent on being with his daughter....eventually, by your actions, he may come to realize what a stupid thing it is to be against a whole race....

Unless you are in an interracial relationship, whether her parents are racist shouldn't matter.
If it's just a topic you and he clash on, stop discussing it. Discuss everything else under the sun and try to find things that you do agree on or share an interest in.
It's a fact of life that you can't rebel against your girlfriend's parents or be critical of their opinions and expect them to love you like family. It's hard to manage that in your own family to begin with but blood is thicker than water, as they say.
Start kissing up. Don't be too too obvious about it. A good beginning is to be very respectful and ask him for permission to do 'x' activity with you (movies, etc.) instead of just 'hanging out'.

Yes I have many times. There is not a great deal you can do. Sometimes if the racism is not to ingrained they will ease up on you once they get to know you, but don't hold your breath.
