After Pearl Harbor, Germany not only declared war on the US but sent a wolf pack of U-Boats to our Atlantic Coast. We lost many ships and a lot of good men before a single American soldier went overseas. Germany definitely did attack us and we were defending ourselves from that physical attack. Its was not global politics like today. Its was self defense.

After Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan, but did not declare war on Germany. A few days later, Germany honored its treaty obligations with Japan, and declared war on the United States. It is worth pointing out that FDR might not have gotten enough votes in Congress to declare war on Germany, so he did not ask for it.

1) Iraq hadn't attacked any US allies since the first gulf war. If that was the reason why not depose Sadam then?
2) Japan was the ALLY of Germany. Neither Osama Bin Laden/Al Qaeda OR Afghanistan was an ally of Iraq
3) Iraq didn't sponser, condone or tolerate Al Qaeda (on an official level), or even wahabism (the sect of Islam that Al Qaeda is a branch of)
4) If oil was the real reason, why not come clean about it? If oil is that important why not persaude the country that it really is worth dying for - and that the US NEEDS to invade countries in order to steal - sorry - acquire their oil.
5) I don't believe Roosevelt said "Japan has attacked us so we need to declare war on Germany" - he said something along the lines that the US wasn't going to let Europe stand alone and remain neutral in world conflicts any longer. He didn't use Pearl harbour as the reason to delcare war on Germany, merely as the reason to get the US public to support _A_ war.

I think the biggest thing to me is that we all know Iraq was sponsoring terrorists throughout the region in terms of providing money to suicide bomber families. Every countries and the UN's intelligence showed that for years Saddam was going for WMD's and WMDs were used against Iran the Kurds. The whole scenario of 9-11 changed ever thing in that we could not take the risk that Iraq got nuclear weapons, other WMDs or gave them to a terrorist group. Because by the time that happened it would be too late and one of our cites would be gone.

I'm sorry. I'm a conservative and agree with most of what you are saying, but oil is not the biggest issue with the war in Iraq. The big issue is shutting down extremist Muslims from committing acts of terror globally.
Most of our oil doesn't even come from the Middle East. Most of it comes from South America, the Gulf of Mexico, and our oil deposits in Alaska.

After Pearl Harbor, Germany, as well as Japan, declared war on us . That is why we went to war with them too.
Iraq didn't declare war on us after 9/11.
But at least you do admit that oil plays a big part in this quagmire.

Glad to see you admit that oil is a big reason for it. Of course, since very little oil was flowing out of Iraq before the invasion (Or since, for that matter), and they had no capacity to hurt our allies, I wonder why we did it.
Oh, BTW, you may be interested in a small fact. Germany declared war on the US, which may have inspired us to fight them, if you think about it..

Do you understand that Germany declared war on the U.S. and not the other way around?
I am so tired of listening to the blathering of people who couldn't pass a 7th grade history or civics test if there was a gun to their head expounding on issues they are too foolish to realize they don't understand.

We did not go to war with Germany only because of Pearl Harbor.
Do YOU understand that your government has, 100% for a fact, lied to you about going to war? Do you understand that intelligence was manipulated to go to war? Do you understand that this administration can admit NO errors at all?
Oh, I guess Scott McClellan did say that the Mission Accomplished speech was a mistake. Wow, what a concession!

I think we should wage war against any nation that refuses to sell us products on our terms. Let's attack France for wine! Let's attack Chile for fresh fruit. Let's attack Japan for electronics. Let's attack Great Britain for knighthoods. Let's attack China . . . why? . . . give Bush and his gang a few minutes to think about it and you can be sure they'll come up with some pretext.
