All the answers are right but I found out something interesting when listening to Hamilton talking about the Montreal Grand Prix. There, so much rubber is worn offf that on certain parts of the track it is necessary to avoid the "marbles", which can cause you to skid. The marbles are shards of rubber that are stripped off the tyres and rolled into balls or "marbles" by the rotary motion of the tyres. Ironically, the best practice times are achieved when lots of other cars have had their go because they lay down films of rubber that give extra grip to the cars that go later.

As it gets worn off, it ends up either in the air or on the road, both of which end up in the ground after it rains. Zinc occurs naturally in soil and it is also used in automobile tires, and if you take samples of soil around and downstream of large cities, you get more and more zinc in the soil, therefore, at least most of the things that make up a tire eventually go into the ground.
