Hi
The most likely cause of this is a faulty or dirty wheel sensor. The sensors are located at the road wheels and are subjected to whatever the road can throw at them.
Be advised though that whilst the light is on your ABS is NOT functioning and your brakes will simply operate as per non-ABS brakes, and will probably feel slightly less efficient than usual.
Have a garage check them out. They will have software to scan for the problem.
Best regards
Geordie

Only way to know is to get the diagnostic code from the computer.
Odds are however one of the wheel sensors has either become dirty or damaged and stopped sending the signal appropriately to the computer.
Your car should drive alright until you can get it looked at. Typically the ABS light will mean you'll still have brakes, but you won't have the anti-lock braking system working for you anymore.

Probably because the accumulator which supplies the power to operate the anti-skid system is not being charged. I recommend you consult a Ford Service workshop. In the meantime be prepared for the car wheels to lock up if you brake hard, especially in slippery road conditions.

FYI- ABS light is for your anti-lock braking system.
The light is staying on because your car's computer is telling you that there may be something wrong with your braking system. Your anti-locking braking system may not work at all or work properly in the event you would need it.
To be on the safe side, take it to a trusted mechanic or a Ford dealer and have them run a diagnostic on it.
