Okay I auditioned for this production and it will be performed infront of about 150 people in about 7 months. It involves dancing, singing and acting which I can do all them. I got in with another 2 of my friends (who are girls).
Well yesturday I went to the cinema with the 2 girls and some other friends (which are boys). As we were going to the cinema one of them asked "remember the practice's for the show start next saturday". My other friends heard and started annoying me about it.

Today at school they told my other friends and mybest friend congratulated me and is supporting me. But my other friends don't get it and think acting is for girls and they said ill have to wear makeup (which doesnt bother me) and they said ill turn gay.

Please give me advice to what I can say in my defence.

(By the way i am not gay)

Tell them it's something you enjoy and you really want to do it. Real friends will support you and if they were smart, they'd join you. Didn't they notice the girls talking to you? There aren't many straight boys in theatre. You basically get your pick ;-)

First of all this is high school ignorance raring its head (on the part of your supposed friends). To start (ignoring the tabloid rumors) are Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Silvester Stalone, Arnold Schwarzeneger, Matt Damon, Al Pacino, Ben Stiller, or the countless other Hollywood "hunks" gay? No. There are gay actors in the business, but I would venture to say that most male stars on TV and film are not. Last time I checked those guys all wear make-up and John Travolta even sings and dance, and many women would give anything to have a date with any of the men on that list. Look, if you like doing it, do it. If your friends are making fun of you more that the usual joking around, they're not really your friends. I'm a singer and actor and am happily married. And another thing, that my high school aged brother has found, drama girls like dating drama guys, and most of the time, the drama girls are really hot.

In short....ignore your friends.

Good news. You can't turn gay (obviously you knew that). And those "friends" of yours are super insecure. You've heard it a thousand times, but when someone is not sure if they are good at anything, they just need to tell someone else that the thing they are good at is for gay people.

If you don't use your talents and you actually let those kids get to you, you will severely regret it.

You are the only person who can place your value on you. You obviously think highly of your theatrical skills. So use them.

Also, when you're out of high school you probably won't even talk to those kids again. It's great. Trust me, you'll find much better friends in college, maybe in the theater department.
Good luck.

Well, if you care, you can look into the lives of Bruce Willis and Richard Burton among others. A large percentage of the population of male actors is gay including a bunch of the guys presented as studly lovers in movies in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Acting will not turn you gay, but you certainly have to tolerate the outrageous behavior that is encouraged by gays and actors. If you like doing it, then go for it.
As for makeup, it is part of the job - ask the guys how long they spent in front of a mirror to get their hair combed the way it is.

Do not let them discourage you from acting!!! There are just some (dumb) people who have hang-ups sbout things like this. You will meet other "theatre" people as you get older and stay in acting. Ask them if they've ever heard of Vin Diesel, he's manly and not gay. What about Tom Cruise, Matthew McConahay(spelling?) Alec Baldwin, or the other very popular actors who are very straight and very masculine. They all had to start somewhere, just like you're doing. Keep with acting if it is something that you love and have a talent for.

Step 1: Deal with it. There will be these types of people throughout your career, if you choose this as a career path.
Step 2: Ask them what kind of gay they think you'll be. Arnold Schwarzenegger gay? Bruce Willis gay? Charlie Sheen gay? Ask them if they think you'll be allowed to wear the same kind of make-up those guys do.
Step 3: Explain that only martial artists have greater stamina than dancers, and women would rather have a man with stamina that someone like them.

You won't "turn" gay because you can act or sing. If acting & singing is you passion, who cares what others think? Those kids are immature & they have so called ideas of what boys & girls are supposed to do. It's just ideas, nothing is set in stone or there are no gender specific roles that the sexes must play. If you want to act & sing then act & sing. You won't turn gay. If that were the case I'm sure a lot of ignorant parents of lesbian teens would force them to act & sing so they'll turn straight. It just won't happen. Art has nothing to do with sexual orientation. Good luck. 2D

First of all those guys aren't your friends and they are homophobic. I'm not saying your gay but they have no right to stereotype you like that. They are being ignorant and stupid.

If you are happy with what you are doing, then eff them, they obviously would be happier sitting around doing nothing then bringing some culture and possibly a career into their lives.

Im a guy and an actor and i think the best way to be respected is to stick up for your beliefs, if they do hassle you they're probably just joking anyway but still you're the one who is going to be spending a lot of time with those 2 girls!!

Look, they are probably jealous. It seems like you are a talented young man, who can sing and dance and that is great. You will get a lot more exposure to girls than they will. Just ignore them and enjoy yourself!
Think about it, if John Travolta let kids get to him like that, the movie Grease would never exist! I personally don't know what the world would be like if I never saw Grease.
