LOL.. double congratz on
(1) asking one of the funniest questions in the forum.
(2) getting so many responses.
and a bonus gratz (ha ha)
(3) it's not about Barry.
I'm a life long Dodger fan with no intentions of ever switching.
The Garvey - Lopes - Russell - Cey years were great. We got to square off against Rose - Morgan - Griffey - Bench - Foster, etc. The rivalry with the Big Red Machine was the best show in the nation. I not only love my team but i live for the competition and good sportsmanship. The Reds provided tons of both during the 70s.
You remember one year at this time, LA had a big lead going into the break. Since both teams were loaded with talent, both were well represented at the game. On All-Star weekend the Reds would walk up behind the Dodgers and whisper "We're gonna catch ya."
And dam-it -- they did too.
You'll always have the 1975 World Series. One of the best ever. Game 6 is unforgettable... every at-bat was a war and momentum swung back and forth like some freak'n Russian novel. When Fisk's dramatic blow ended it, someone (Sparky, i think) expressed disappointment to Rose at losing, Pete replied: "We'll get 'em tomorrow."
You have plenty to be proud of. Enjoy it.

Sure!!! There is no problem with liking any team. Hey, I am a Pittsburgh Pirate fan and have been since I was a kid back in the 70's. They have not been doin' very well for a QUITE a while; however, I am not ashamed to admit I am a fan of the Pirates because I am a true fan that will not ever "Jump Off or On" the band wagon, per se. Be proud of your team, the Reds, and continue to root them on!

Be proud! I am a Reds fan. I was there the past 30 years through the ups and downs just like you. We will win again someday and when we do...I am sure the fans will come out of the woodwork like when the Red Sox won it.
Lets start a collection (a big one) and buy the team from the sorry ownership and build a champion. That is what everyone else seems to be doing......

Let me tell you as a long-suffering Cubs fan, things could be a hell of a lot worse. Since 1961, the Reds have been to 6 World Series, winning 3. Let's see, since 1945 the Cubs have been in, hmmmmm, none. And since 1908, have not won a World Series. Not that I'm saying I'm any tougher then you are, but if I can stuck it out with a team that has not been to a World Series in my lifetime, so can you.
That's what separates true fans from the bandwagon jumpers - stick with them, and learn to enjoy the game for itself, not just the winning and losing.

There was some lady that has been a season ticket holder for the Dodgers for almost 40 years talking to Vin Scully a few weeks ago. She's like 70 something and still goes to Dodger stadium.
I bet you that she has seen them fail an awful lot of times, but she never stopped coming. That is loyalty.
If you like the Reds, whether it's the local team or for no reason whatsoever, stick with them. Especially if you have liked them for so long, why stop now?

If you are a true fan then you will support them all the time and at any time. I hate fair-weather/band-wagon fans. I have been a Dodger fan since birth and I have gone through ups and downs but I have always hated the Giants because of this, and I would never to my bakc on the Dodgers.

Admit that you are a Reds fan, you are a true fan so there's no need to hide it right. True fans keep their colors through thick and thin. I am an Orioles fan, we haven't had a winning season here since 1997. I still am known to wear my Orioles cap and t-shirts when out. You aren't alone.

Go ahead and be open -- it takes a lot more of a person to be a true fan of their team through up and downs than it does to come out of the closet only when a team is doing well.

I would never be ashamed of team. If your team sucks go ahead and let it be known that"I'm a REDS fan" that way when they do come around and compete for a world series you tell everyone that I was there when they sucked and I'm here when they dominated. No one can call you a band wagon jumper and you can call yourself a true fan.
