They might pull the codes for free but keep in mind, they are a parts store trying to sell parts, not fix cars. When you pull the codes from a car you are getting processed information, what the ECM see as the problem, not a list of bad parts like most people seem to think. Even after you have the codes you need to do diagnostics to determine the root cause of the concern, that or throw parts at it like Autozone is hoping you will do.

Nothing to do with fluids. Flashing means you are misfiring and that's something that may be serious. A scan of the code at this point will just tell you what cylinder is misfiring and I bet there's more than one. Did you put lower grade gas? That and the heat could cause this. It could also be a bad fuel filter, bad spark plugs or bad injectors. Happens a lot as the weather starts to get hot out. I would go have the car checked out because there are many possible causes and it could get costly replacing parts that may not fix the problem. You might get lucky but it's best to have it taken care of and stop driving if it continues as misfiring can damage the engine easily.

yes, i have pulled into an autozone and all they had to do was hook this lil electronic code thingy and look the code up to see what was wrong...not sure if they can clear the problem though. i have a VW and they told me to go to the nearest dealership to get whatever was wrong with it fixed. but at least you know what is wrong and how severe the problem is. good luck!

I think the car has to be a 1996 or newer but yes they can run a diagnostic tool to find out what the problem is. You usually have to fix the problem to clear the code. My Saturn had a similar problem. The light went out a few days before my mechanic was going to look at it and hasn't come back on yet.

i had this problem with my car and i went to my mechanic and they ran a diagnosic and i needed a new sensor. i think that you should go the mechanic to make sure thereis no engine problem that needs to be corrected.

They claim to do it for free, and so does O'Reilly. He just didn't feel like helping you out.
