My brother an I have been killing carpentar bees (atleast 30) and I was wondering if i had just gotten lucky by not being stung or if they just dont sting at all.

The males don't sting. The males are all black with white speck on their heads. They are usually the ones who like to fly directly up to your face and when you step aside they follow you. That is the carpenter bee mating dance and they are trying to size you up as a potential mate. I think they are funny. If you pick something up and throw it then they will follow it too just in case it is a willing female. As for the female bee, you would have to do something crazy like pick it up and squeeze it to get it to sting. These bees are very docile, however, they are very destructive as well especially when they bore into your home or structures. Anyhow, I'm sure the bees you've been killing are the males because the female have much more important things to do like pollinate. Good luck with the bees.

I had a beach towel hanging over a wooden rail at the pool and I grabbed the towel and put it over my arm and got stung by a carpenter bee so they do sting!

Yes! We've had a nest near our front steps for weeks, no problems, they'd just zip by and go to their nest then back to the flowers, then suddenly one day as I was sitting on the step, I was attacked. One or more buzzed around my head then stung me on the face and hand as I tried to swat it away. I'm only glad it was me they attacked and not a child. Needless to say, as much as I hated to do it, that was the end of them.
