They are different, in that they share no common parts, and are made by different manufacturers for different cars.

There may be little difference in actual power output - both Ford and Audi have 1.6-litre petrol engines of around 115bhp, and 2.0-litre diesel engines of around 138bhp, for example.

Audi engines are shared with other VW Group bands (Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat).
Ford petrol engines are shared with other Ford-owned brands (Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover), while their diesel engines are also shared with PSA (Peugeot & Citroën) and more recently Mini.

That's an interesting question. If both engines have the same displacement, the German engine would be my choice. The reason for this is the amount of detail that is in it. Any engine can be made quicker by various means. Most engines of today are computer controlled, they can be altered to give maximum performance with the use of chips or other devices that allow you to "tweak" the readouts.
That's my best answer, good luck!

Like everything, design is full of compromises. Engines of the same displacement could be designed for maximum power, maximum fuel efficiency, minimum emissions, maximum longevity or minimum servicing costs. You could never design to maximise every aspect.

If you want to know which is best for a given car you would have to study all the statistics.

It is not just size that has to be considered the valves may be different there could be dual overhead cams in one higher compression there are a lot of differences to consider. You should check out the horsepower and torque of each and consider the gas mileage as well.

what a stupid, vague and pointless question. be a little more specific, like is the ford 1.8i comparable with the vw/audi 1.8T? that way you may get a more relevant answer.

an engine doesn't know want the name on the valve covers is, they all operate on the same principles. as to which is faster, that depends on more than just the engine.
