Definitely to understand.

I'm neither deep enough nor creative to be misunderstood in the sense I think you are using these terms.

My goal in life is to be reflective enough to receive knowledge not my own . . . and make it my own.

Considering the fact that only a few understand already, I'd rather be one who understands over being understood.

If you mean would I rather always understand everything or always be understood, then I would much rather always understand. It wouldn't really matter if you were understood. And at least you'd understand why they didn't understand you.

That is tough. Both are equally important. However, I would rather understand for my personally benefit even if I would never be understood.

I always understand... but I prefer to be understood because I have weird personality and have weird sense of humor.. so people tend not to understand me.. so i would like to be understood

Both..its good to understand others,but sometimes being understood is always a good thing.

Millions and millions of people don't speak English. So, I know that I am not understood. I'm fine with that.

There are many things that I don't understand -- language barriers aside. I'm fine with that.

Of the two, a lack of understanding can be frustrating, but then why frustrate the self.

Well, as I understand you, I believe my answer is "understand", since knowledge is power. Were I understood without understanding, I would be at the mercy of anyone and everyone.
