I rent a room to a friend and he owes me $585 in back rent. We only have a verbal rental agreement but I do keep track of what he owes and what is paid. Will this be enough to take him to court?

You can try; without a rental agreement, it's going to be he said he said and certainly not a slam dunk

Sure! Verbal agreements are valid. While the amount might be in dispute, if you have careful records of what was said, what was paid and when then you have a very strong case to answer.

This would be best handled in Small Claims Court.

Hi,
Yes, verbal agreements are just as binding as written.

I think it would be enough to take them to court you still have proof that he or she hasn't paid you right...so go for it, get the money that you need to pay YOUR bills
